Course format, credit breakdown, and assessment

 

The course was weighted 4 ECTS (1 ECTS = approx. 27 hrs.) with the following breakdown. The bulleted items indicate the grading method and associated requirement for passing the course.
Lectures (1 ECTS)

The course was 6 weeks long with 2 lectures per week; each lecture was approximately 2 hours long. This yielded approximately 24 hours of lecture time in total.

  • PASS/FAIL: Lecture attendance was mandatory.
  • (33%) GRADED COMPONENT: Participantion in lecture discussions and level of contributions.

Reading assignments & annotations (2 ECTS)

Participants were required to read and annotate 2-3 publications per week. The expected time commitment was at least 6 hours per week, constituting the majority of the time spent preparing for the final exam.

  • PASS/FAIL: Read and annotate all papers to successfully pass the course.

Presentation (0.5 ECTS)

Participants were required to make a ~60min lecture presentation of one of the future Internet architecture publications assigned in the course and answer questions and lead a discussion session following the presentation.

  • (33%) GRADED COMPONENT: Presentation.

Final Exam (0.5 ECTS)

The final exam covered all lectures and readings, including student presentations and future Internet architecture publications.

  • (33%) GRADED COMPONENT: Pass the final exam with a 1 or above in order to pass the course.

All of the above was mandatory. Students were not allowed to partially complete requirements and receive partial credit.
Final marks were computed using the weightings described above and the traditional 0 – 5 scale of Aalto University:

5 : Excellent : 90 – 100%

4 : Very good : 80 – 89%

3 : Good : 70 – 79%

2 : Fair : 60 – 69%

1 : Poor : 50 – 59%

0 : FAIL : < 50%
